Abstract
This paper presents the design and implementation of an automated tablet filling station utilizing the Siemens S7-1200 PLC to enhance pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. The tablet filling operation, particularly in small to medium-sized production facilities, is often labor-intensive, prone to human error, and lacks operational efficiency. This project demonstrates a cost-effective automation solution that improves throughput while significantly reducing manual intervention. The system is implemented using the Amatrol 87-MS4 mechatronics station, where existing conveyor systems facilitate bottle sorting, while a custom-designed tablet dispensing mechanism was developed from the ground up. Two distinct product recipes are managed through RFID-based identification, enabling automated sorting and recipe-specific tablet dispensing. A proximity sensor provides real-time bottle counting for inventory tracking and process monitoring. The complete system is integrated with a SCADA platform for centralized monitoring, control, and data acquisition, providing operators with comprehensive oversight of the filling process and enabling real-time performance analysis.
