Art & Warfare Exhibit

This exhibit featured the Immersive Visualization Studio’s screen wall technology, an installation of twenty-four 46” screens supported by eight computers. In collaboration with Dr. Scott Kuhl and students from the Computer Science program, the wall’s program dynamically displays historical images of artwork sketched by official American Expeditionary Force artists, as well as other work of art reflecting on the nature and impact of warfare during World War I. The visual component of the exhibit is accompanied by jazz renditions of contemporary popular songs arranged and performed by Bill Carrothers, from his stunning collection, Armistice 1918. Art & Warfare realizes the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) by facilitating multisensory reflections on humanistic themes of aesthetics, technology, and war through the media of acoustic engineering and digital display.
