Optical waveguides in lead zinc niobate-lead titanate by He ion implantation

Abstract
The formation by ion implantation of optical waveguides in single crystal morphotropic PZN-PT was investigated. A characterization methodology that allowed to extract the degree of tetragonal distortion in the waveguide region was employed. The material was observed to undergo unusually large modulations of the refractive index throughout the implanted structure.
