A variation of the coagulation equation with applications in material sciences

Abstract
A first order, quadratic integro-differential equation is introduced which describes the time varying volume distribution of an ensemble of particles undergoing concurrent coalescence and fracture. Advantages of this model and features of its solution are discussed and an example is given.
