Abstract
Some complex microstructures defy description in terms of Euclidean principles. Fractal geometry, however, can make numerical statements about any shape or collection of shapes, however irregular and chaotic they may seem. To better understand the potential of this method, the following presents examples of fractal analysis as applied to the characterization of metallographic images.
