Abstract
© 2016 IEEE. The Hybrid MIMO Phased Array Radar (HMPAR) is a notional concept for a multisensor radar architecture that combines the element of traditional phased array radars with the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radars. Previous publications focused attention on the transmit signaling strategies and transmit beampatterns. Here we consider the receive signaling processing to detect and estimate the location of a nonmoving, nonfluctuating, point target into a search volume. As the search volume size decreases, the HMPAR's SNR increases and reaches that of a phased array with the same geometry. Furthermore, the HMPAR is shown to be more robust than the phased array with respect to target location mismatch.
