Abstract
The Solvent-Targeted Recovery and Precipitation (STRAP) process development unit (PDU) is an active area of research for the betterment of industrial-scale recycling. It focuses on the ability to recycle plastics that would typically end up in waste streams due to the uneconomically viable processes of mechanical and chemical recycling methods. This method can be divided into two main technological processes: dissolution and precipitation. In this proposal, the focus will be on 1) the feedstock pre-processing and handling for uniform and continuous solid material dosing, 2) the high shear and turbulent mixing for fast dissolution, 3) the centrifugal separation of the non-dissolved solids and solution, 4) the drying and solvent recovery from the non-dissolved solids. The purpose of this is to develop a pilot scale STRAP process which is a crucial step for the commercialization.
