Abstract
This master's project takes the form of a documentary film called Alternative Yoopers. The film follows three different subjects who are separated by generations and interests but connected by their love for the Upper Peninsula and the innovative the redefine the term "Yooper". A Yooper, for those of you who don't know, is someone who is connected to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and embodies certain qualities which I will illustrate shortly. By this definition, I think it is possible for one to be a Yooper and geographically be somewhere else or live in the Upper Peninsula and not identify as a Yooper at all. Of course, this cast of characters is both geographically and emotionally tied to the U.P.
