Abstract
It is difficult for conventional methods to specify the texture characteristic with high friction. Three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology offers a viable solution to this problem. In this study, the friction difference between road material and 3DP material was measured, and artificial texture specimens were designed to study the effect of different texture characteristics on friction. Furthermore, the effective contact condition between these textures and rubber at different pressures were investigated to explain the friction behaviors. The results show that the positive texture with sharper top angle has better friction performance, and it has lower reduction in friction under wet condition, which could be due to its smaller effective contact area and larger penetration depth with rubber.
