Abstract
An analytical technique is presented to combine viscously damped multi-dimensinal continuous systems with discrete springs or viscous dampers. The known characteristics of the unconnected systems are used to generate a characteristic equation leading to the complete solution of the combined system. The method circumvents many of the numerical difficulties associated with problems involving eigenvalues with the same or nearly the same moduli. A variety of numerical examples of this type are included. © 1974 Academic Press Inc. (London) Limited.
