Abstract
The ease of erection of bolted frames has caused an increase in their application in recent years. The safe design of such frames requires the inclusion of joint flexibility in the analysis. The behavior of such connections is generally nonlinear. Since in optimization and nonlinear analysis the solution is carried out as a collection of elastic problems, efficient techniques are required for the analysis of the frame. In this paper a method is developed for such purposes. The method gives exact results for symmetric multi-story single-bay frames. For multi-bay frames the results are approximate and the degree of accuracy varies with the problem. A procedure for obtaining the exact solution of multi-bay frames is discussed.
