Abstract
This final chapter provides a summary and conclusions of the book, as well as some directions for future research. It was found that despite recent changes in ethanol markets, Brazil has maintained its dominant position for production and trade in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), though in recent years its exports have plummeted. In the case of biodiesel, however, the situation is much more volatile. Both Brazil and Argentina have grown to challenge the USA for the production lead. Argentina dominated trade and exports until recently, when its practices have been challenged in Europe. The increasing importance of trade in LAC (and also with the USA) and changes in agricultural markets underscores that biofuels present both opportunities and challenges for the region.
