Abstract
Examples of inappropriate use of phantom horizons and proper use of attributes based on a window around a phantom horizon are presented. Seismic attributes based on phantom horizon can be useful in exploration and development provided the interpreter carefully select the attributes. Almost no phantom horizon sufficiently conforms to the geologic event of interest to allow the unfettered use of point-based attributes, but window-based attributes can be useful, particularly if the attributes are designed to detect features suspected to lie within the data.
