Abstract
In view of the development and the need for fault diagnosis in industries, remote diagnostics technology, based on intranet and Internet, is deemed an inevitable trend. This article presents the architecture of a multi-tier, complex remote diagnostics system by applying CORBA. Functionality for each tier of the architecture is elaborated. A remote diagnostic system is then implemented and applied to the diagnosis of mechanical equipment in a large-scale iron and steel corporation. The system can cross platforms, including heterogeneous hardware and software, operating systems, and network protocols. Some results of remote diagnosis in the large-scale iron and steel plant are presented. The advantages of remote diagnosis for the industrial system under consideration are discussed.
