Abstract
Previous research has shown that drivers only look for a train about 33% of the time at railroad crossings. With driver inattention composing a large proportion of reported accidents, there exists a need to be able to quantify exactly what a driver fixates on over the course of a drive. This paper presents a method using simulated railroad situations as a hazard-medium to create driving scan pattern maps over the course of a long drive. Copyright © 2013 by ASME.
