Abstract

© 2016 IEEE. In this paper, the results of a research and development project sponsored by Nucor Steel Corporation, Marion, Ohio, is presented. This project is conducted at Michigan Technological University with the objective to design and develop an automated robotic system for precise stacking of highway signposts, while complying with the required stacking pattern as well as time constraints. The design and development is fulfilled for the three main subsystems including structural support, end-effector, and control subsystems. The completed stacker system is tested at Michigan Technological University and delivered to Nucor Steel plant to be installed at Press #2 of the production line in highway products division.
