Abstract

The results of full-wave simulations of resonance responses of metamaterial structures incorporating multiple unit cells are presented. The structures under consideration include conventional metamaterials comprising arrays of split-ring resonators and cut wires, metamaterials composed of dielectric resonators, and electromagnetic shell-type cloaks consisting of either metallic or dielectric resonator arrays. The conducted studies have revealed drastic interactions between partcles in all types of metamaterials that can modify the mechanisms of wave propagation in these structures and need to be accounted for at the designing of metamaterials. The potential of utilizing integrated resonance responses to increase the tailorability of metamaterial properties is demonstrated. © 2010 IEEE.
