About the Panelists

Debra Charlesworth is the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School with over 20 years of experience in higher education at Michigan Tech. She started her Lean journey when she made her first process flow chart for her fifth grade science project. She completed Lean training at Michigan Tech in 2017, and enjoys teaching others about Lean, helping others improve their processes, and using Lean in her daily work.

Theresa A. Coleman-Kaiser became Associate Vice President for Administration in 2015 after serving in several administrative and operations positions at Michigan Tech since 1999. Coleman-Kaiser currently oversees the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum, the Office of Continuous Improvement, Facilities Operations, Campus Auxiliary Services, Public Safety and Police Services , Transportation Services, Auxiliary Housing, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Business Support Center within Administration. Prior to Michigan Tech, Coleman-Kaiser worked at Grinnell College, St. Norbert College, and the University of Oregon in auxiliary services and student union roles. Coleman-Kaiser is a Lean practitioner, a campus Lean facilitator, and former Director of the Michigan Lean Consortium. Coleman-Kaiser’s current focus is developing leaders as coaches of continually developing teams by guiding leaders to achieve their vision of Leadership Excellence.

Nicholas Fornetti, Director of Quality Systems at Lake Shore Systems, Inc. Nick’s career in manufacturing spans 14 year and covers every level form factory floor to senior management. He developed a passion for lean and problem solving and has had the opportunity to learn from lean leaders throughout the Midwest. In 2016, he co-founded the Continuous Improvement Solutions Group (CSG) a lean users group based in the UP that brings manufacturers together to learn from each other and solve their unique challenges. Outside of work, Nick is active with local youth sports serving as a hockey and soccer coach and as board president of Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors with his wife and 3 children.

Laurie Stark has a Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Management. She is currently the Staff Development and Lean Initiatives Coordinator for the Van Pelt & Opie Library. She has 10+ of experience in the teaching field ranging from K-12, postsecondary and professional development classes and training. Laurie is a Senior Lean Facilitator and Lean Facilitator Development Board Member at Michigan Tech and is currently working on becoming Bronze certified through the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
