Abstract
This article offers an approach to equipment justification that incorporates today’s strategic and environmental considerations. This approach will improve the quality of equipment justification decisions, and can contribute to improvements in plant effectiveness.
We begin by describing and critiquing traditional equipment justification methods, and then discuss issues related to strategic objectives. We also survey environmental issues, and suggest how they can be strategically significant.
Finally, we develop a framework for incorporating strategic objectives and environmental issues into the equipment justification process.
